Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell started as a radio and TV reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. She was made the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell has been a panelist, as well as presenter of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. She covered many notable issues, such as the arm control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to numerous summits in the company of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
